BLS Healthcare Provider Course

 

Who should attend this course

 

Healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel.

 

What you will learn in this course:

 

The American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Course is designed to give healthcare providers the ability to recognize life-threatening emergencies. During the course you will learn to give effective adult, child and infant Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and be instructed in how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Also covered will be rescue techniques for choking victims and the correct use of the bag valve mask and protective barrier devices.

 

How long the course will last: 

 

Approximately 4 hours

 

What you will have achieved by the end of the course

 

Completion of this course leads to the trainee being certified for two years in accordance with American Heart Associations guidelines. A fully validated certification card is issued to all successful attendees at the end of the course.

All delegates will be issued with a BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual prior to the course. This workbook should be read before attending the course.


 

Heartsaver CPR

 

Who should attend this course

 

This course is specifically designed for those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of their job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. This is typically non professional healthcare providers who want to learn Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

 

What you will learn in this course

 

This American Heart Association approved Heart Saver CPR course teaches you how to recognize an emergency. A mixture of adult, child and infant CPR techniques are taught in addition to rescue techniques for choking victims. Delegates are also taught how to protect themselves by use of barrier devices.

 

How long will the course last

 

To learn the specialist CPR techniques for adults, children and infants takes one hour per component and courses normally cover all three areas hence a course duration of three hours is the norm.

 

What you will have achieved by the end of the course

 

Completion of this course leads to the trainee being certified for two years in accordance with American Heart Associations guidelines. A fully validated certification card is issued to all attendees at the end of the course.

 

Course materials provided

ACLS

 
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider

 

This ACLS course is designed for health-care providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of a hospital.  This course is designed to teach lifesavers to initiate advanced resuscitative efforts in response to cardiovascular emergencies experienced by adults. The ACLS course includes training on advanced airway management, major emergency conditions, electrical therapy, invasive therapeutic and monitoring techniques and special resuscitation situations.

 

PALS

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider

 

The PALS course is created to aid the pediatric health-care provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage critically ill infants and children.  Through the PALS class, students will enhance their skills in the treatment of the pediatric victim of cardiac arrest and other emergencies.  Chicago’s Pulse goal is to provide the most up-to-date PALS technology and train health-care providers on how to use these skills.

 


 

Heartsaver AED

 

Who should attend this course

 

This course is specifically designed for those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of their job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. This is typically non professional healthcare providers who want to learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

 

What you will learn in this course

 

This American Heart Association approved Heart Saver AED course teaches you how to recognize an emergency. Heartsaver First Aid

 

Who should attend this course

 

This course is specifically designed for those who have a duty to learn First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) as part of their job responsibilities.

 

This course contains:

 

The American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid Course covers the identification and basic treatment of Adult emergencies. Students are taught what to do in the event of an emergency until professional help arrives and extensive skills practice is used to underpin the topics covered including adult CPR. General health and safety is discussed along with rescue techniques for choking victims. The course also covers general principles of treatment for both medical emergencies and injury emergencies.

 

Optional topics can be included in this course to cover pediatric CPR and AED and  environmental emergencies.

 

How long will the course last

 

This course can be highly tailored to exactly suit your specific requirements. This means that the duration of the course can vary considerably. The following course durations are for guidance only.

 

Basic First Aid  - Approximately 3 hours
Advanced First Aid - Approximately 4 hours
First Aid with Adult & Child CPR & AED - Approximately 6 hours

Who should attend this course:

 

Anyone who holds an American Heart Association healthcare provider card.

 

Prerequisite:

 

All instructor candidates must complete the core course before attending instructors course. Certificate of completion must be submitted day of course with copy of current HCP card.

 

What you will learn in this course:

 

The American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Instructor Course is designed to give healthcare providers the ability to understand the science behind CPR and to be a American Heart Association instructor. During the course you will learn to teach effective adult, child and infant Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and be able to instruct how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Also covered will be rescue techniques for choking victims and the correct use of the bag valve mask and protective barrier devices.

 

How long the course will last: 

 

Approximately 8 hours

 

What you will have achieved by the end of the course

 

Completion of this course leads to the trainee being a certified instructor for two years in accordance with American Heart Associations guidelines. A fully validated certification card is issued to all successful attendees after completion of prerequisite course and course monitoring.

Who should attend this course

 

Anyone who holds a current American Heart Association certification.

 

What you will learn in this course:

 

The American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Course , and all Heartsaver courses need to be repeated every two years, it is designed to give students the ability to re recognize life-threatening emergencies. Depending on the course card you hold, will depend on components repeated. During the course you will repeat effective adult, child and infant Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and be instructed in how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Also covered will be rescue techniques for choking victims. Healthcare providers will repeat the correct use of the bag valve mask and protective barrier devices as well.

 

How long the course will last: 

 

Approximately 2 hours

 

What you will have achieved by the end of the course

 

Completion of this course leads to the trainee being certified for two years in accordance with American Heart Associations guidelines. A fully validated certification card is issued to all successful attendees at the end of the course.

Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens

 

The Heartsaver BBP. This course covers the general OSHA Standard for bloodborne pathogens training for anyone with a reasonable chance for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Designed for workers in the commercial market who must receive training per OSHA Standard 1910.1030.

 

The NEW Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens course teaches students:

ENPC

 

ENPC is a 16 hour course sponsored by the Emergency Nurses Association, designed to provide core level pediatric knowledge and psychomotor skills needed to care for the pediatric patient in the emergency setting.  The course presents a systematic assessment model, integrates the associated anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, and identifies appropriate interventions.  Triage categorization and prevention strategies are included in the course content.  ENPC is taught using a variety of formats, including lectures, videotapes, and includes skill stations that encourage participants to integrate their psychomotor abilities into a patient situation in a risk free setting.  This course is designed for registered nurses including specialties such as ER nurses, critical care nurses, pediatric nurses, and nurses caring for children in an outpatient setting.  Verification will be issued from the ENA with successful completion of the course.  Verification remains current for four years. 

 

TNCC

 

TNCC is a 16 hour course developed by by the Emergency Nurses Association, designed to provide the learner with cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills which will build a firm foundation for trauma nursing.  This course is designed for registered nurses and may be attended by ER nurses, critical care nurses, or transport nurses.  It is recommended that the participant have at least six months of clinical nursing experience in an emergency care setting before attending this course.  Verification will be issued by the ENA upon successful completion of the course.  Verification will be valid for four years. 

 

 

 

Healthcare Provider Online Renewal Course

 

American Heart association E Learning (link to Amercian Heart Association web site)

This online course is designed for the healthcare provider who has previously taken a healthcare provider course and would like to obtain a new healthcare provider card.  This course represents the cognitive portion (Part 1) of this blended learning course.  For a Fee Chicago's Pulse provides the skills test (Part 2) with an AHA instructor. When the student completes the certification process, your card will be issued after the skill test is completed.
